Driving Less? CAA MyPace May Be the Perfect Solution!

June 24, 2020 / Sarah Manley

Let’s face it - times are different. Physical distancing, non-surgical masks and washing your hands 5,000 times a day are part of our new every day.

The other change for many is that they are staying home more, and rarely driving their vehicles. Gone are the days of long commutes for a number of Ontarians, traded for home schooling and working at the kitchen table. Others are no longer working, and may be looking for ways to save money.

CAA Insurance may have the solution.

We are proud to offer Canada’s only ‘pay-as-you-drive’ payment plan for automobile insurance – CAA MyPaceTM. This solution, ideal for people who drive less than 9,000 kilometers a year, lets drivers take control of their car insurance costs, because they only pay for the kilometers actually driven. And, on average, pay-as-you-go drivers save 40 – 60% on their automobile insurance premiums.

How it works:

Once enrolled in the CAA MyPace plan, customers receive a device to be installed in their vehicles. Then all they need to do is start driving. They pay for the first 1,000 kilometers up front, and once that limit is reached, they pay for the next 1,000, and so on. Previously it was an ideal plan for retired drivers, or those who only drove for pleasure. But the current state has opened up its eligibility to a swarm of new people.

CAA South Central Ontario recently conducted a study amongst nearly 4,000 members, to measure how people’s habits have changed amidst COVID-19, and how many are looking for ways to save on their insurance. The results* speak for themselves:

  • 71% of respondents said their driving habits have changed as a result of COVID-19.
  • 78% of respondents predict they would be driving significantly less in 2020.
  • 31% of respondents indicated their household finances have worsened.
  • 54% of respondents are looking for ways to reduce their auto insurance costs.
  • 74% of respondents cited their most preferred action to lower their auto insurance costs would be to review their policy with their broker, to ensure they are not paying more than they need and are adequately covered.
  • Only 7% of respondents have already made adjustments to their auto insurance as a result of COVID-19, while many more are concerned about costs.

Clearly, CAA MyPace may be the right fit for the many consumers looking to save on their auto insurance.

And it’s easy to switch to our pay-as-you-drive payment plan.

Why? Because we will process the policy for you! If you’re switching one of your customers to CAA MyPace, simply submit the request or new application to our Broker Support team. The subject line should read: CAA MyPace Application. We will process it for you, and then contact you to add the payment information and release the policy.

Customers who decide that CAA MyPace is the right fit for the current situation, can revert back to a traditional automobile policy when their driving habits return to normal, with no penalty or fees.
